A trespasser entered former Vice President Kamala Harris’ Malibu property Friday night, prompting her private security team to call the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Deputies arrived at the home at around 10:30 p.m. after security reported a suspicious person, according to the sheriff’s department.
The person was stopped by security before reaching the house. Deputies later spoke with the individual and told them to leave the property. The person left voluntarily and no arrest was made.
Harris and her husband, Doug Emhoff, were not at home when the incident happened, their spokesperson Eduardo Negrón said.
Negrón said the person had illegally entered the property but was stopped before getting to the house. He also said Harris and Emhoff were thankful to their security team and law enforcement for responding quickly.
The sheriff’s department took a trespassing report and said local deputies would increase patrols around the property as a precaution.
The incident comes after Harris lost her extended Secret Service protection. Former vice presidents normally receive federal protection for six months after leaving office. Former President Joe Biden had extended Harris’ protection, but President Donald Trump later canceled that extension.
Harris and Emhoff bought their Malibu home within the past year for more than $8 million.
For now, authorities have not reported any injuries or further problems related to the incident.
