President Donald Trump has launched a new website, TrumpRx.gov, which he says will help Americans buy many prescription medicines at much lower prices. He revealed the site on Thursday at the White House, standing alongside CMS chief Dr. Mehmet Oz and Airbnb co-founder Joe Gebbia.
Trump called the project “a very big deal,” saying it will help people save money on important drugs, including insulin, fertility treatments, and popular weight-loss medicines. The website began with more than 40 discounted medications.
Dr. Oz said the discounts are already live and urged people to visit the site. Gebbia showed how the website works, explaining that users can print coupons or save them to their phones for easy use at pharmacies.
The discounts come from price agreements the White House says it has negotiated with major drug companies like Pfizer, Eli Lilly, Novo Nordisk, Merck, Novartis, GSK, and others. These deals are tied to Trump’s “most favored nation” policy, which aims to match US drug prices with the lowest prices in other developed countries.
Over the past year, the Trump administration announced multiple agreements with big pharmaceutical firms. The companies agreed to sell certain medications at sharply reduced prices directly to consumers and to Medicaid. In return, the White House paused planned tariffs on the drug industry.
Pfizer was the first company to sign on, offering an average 50 percent discount across many of its treatments. Later deals included Eli Lilly and Novo Nordisk cutting prices for popular weight-loss drugs Wegovy and Zepbound.
The new TrumpRx site works mostly through coupons. Out of the 43 listed medicines, 31 come with coupons that patients can show at pharmacies. Some drugs require mail-order pickup, and a few coupons are only available to people who are not enrolled in Medicaid, Medicare, or any other government insurance program.
The discounts only apply to people paying out of pocket. The site also notes that insurance copays may still be cheaper for many patients. In some cases, the discounted brand-name prices may still be higher than generic versions sold elsewhere.
Some medicines listed on TrumpRx do not have coupons on the site. Instead, users are directed to the manufacturers’ own discount programs, which many companies already offer.
The administration has claimed the new drug deals will also save money for state Medicaid programs. But some analysts warn that the agreements could have the opposite effect—raising costs or limiting access for some patients.
For now, TrumpRx aims to give uninsured Americans and cash-paying customers a new way to find lower prices on dozens of medications, with more discounts expected to be added in the coming months.
