Kamala Harris has brought back one of her biggest digital accounts, but with a new mission. On Thursday, the former vice president and 2024 Democratic presidential nominee relaunched her popular KamalaHQ accounts on X and TikTok as a new project called Headquarters. The goal is to build an online space that mobilizes young voters and supports long-term political organizing.
The KamalaHQ account already has a strong base, with more than 1 million followers on X and over 5 million on TikTok. Harris teamed up with the progressive group People for the American Way to create what she calls “an online organizing project for next-generation campaigning.”
In a video shared during the launch, Harris said Headquarters will be a place to stay updated and connect with community and national leaders. She described it as a digital home for people who want to stay engaged with issues that matter.
According to a press release, the group aims to fix a longtime problem in progressive politics. “Conservatives build permanent organizing infrastructure. Progressives have historically built machines that dismantle after Election Day. Headquarters is the end of that cycle,” the statement said.
Headquarters will post on several major platforms, including Substack and YouTube. The organization will run independently of Harris, who will serve only as chair emerita. Her advisers, along with members of People for the American Way, will guide the content.
Harris said she won’t be involved in approving posts. Still, she plans to remain active through her ongoing book tour, which will continue into the spring.
Harris has been speaking often about her concerns regarding the country’s political direction. During a December speech at a Democratic National Committee meeting in Los Angeles, she said both parties have failed many Americans. “The American dream has become more of a myth than reality,” she said, adding that many people believe the government no longer meets their needs.
Her book, “107 Days,” which covers her brief 2024 presidential run, has sparked debate inside the Democratic Party. Some of her comments about President Biden, Pete Buttigieg, Josh Shapiro, and Gavin Newsom have drawn criticism.
Even though Harris said she has stepped away from politics for now, she has not ruled out running for president again in 2028. Her recent interviews and public events suggest she plans to stay a visible figure in national conversations.
The rebranded Headquarters account announced itself on X with the message, “Welcome to Headquarters, the new Gen-Z led progressive content hub.” The page features an eye-catching banner with an inverted bald eagle image and a bright green logo.
A preview video posted earlier in the week showed a user trying to log into the old KamalaHQ account with several wrong passwords, including “project2025wasreal,” before the word “headquarters” finally unlocked the screen.
People for the American Way said the project’s main goal is to “mobilize pro-fairness, pro-democracy young people against far-right extremism.”
Harris has recently criticized the Trump administration over the arrest of journalists Don Lemon and Georgia Fort in Los Angeles. She called it an attack on press freedom and said the move was “another affront to our rights and freedoms.”
Harris’s new Headquarters project shows she wants to stay involved in shaping political conversations, even without holding office. With a strong online following and a youth-focused strategy, the effort aims to create long-term digital organizing that continues beyond elections.
