Donald Trump is turning up the pressure on the Justice Department, urging a full investigation into alleged ties between Jeffrey Epstein and several high-profile Democrats, including former President Bill Clinton, ex-Treasury Secretary Larry Summers, and executives connected to JP Morgan Chase.
In a burst of posts on Truth Social Friday morning, Trump claimed Democrats are reviving what he calls the “Epstein Hoax” to distract from the government shutdown and other political problems. He said Attorney General Pam Bondi, the DOJ, and the FBI should move quickly to dig into Epstein’s connections.
Trump compared the situation to past investigations he’s called politically motivated, writing that “all arrows point to the Democrats” and insisting that records show several prominent figures spent significant time with Epstein. “Stay tuned,” he added.
By the afternoon, Bondi confirmed that Jay Clayton, the U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York, would oversee the probe. She said the department would pursue the matter “with urgency and integrity.”
This latest development comes just days after the House Oversight Committee released a batch of previously sealed emails from Epstein’s estate.
The messages show Epstein mentioning Trump in exchanges with Ghislaine Maxwell, author Michael Wolff, and others. In some emails, Epstein claimed Trump “knew about the girls” and had spent time with victim Virginia Giuffre. Giuffre, who died by suicide in April, never accused Trump of any wrongdoing. The newly released records also don’t provide evidence implicating Trump in Epstein’s crimes.
Other emails reference Clinton, Summers, and Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, who recently lost his royal titles. Clinton has denied knowing anything about Epstein’s criminal behavior.
Trump, for his part, insists he had no involvement in Epstein’s activities and argues the focus should be on Democrats. “Ask Bill Clinton, Reid Hoffman, and Larry Summers about Epstein,” he wrote. “I have a country to run.”
He has also criticized a House effort to force the DOJ to release even more Epstein-related files, calling Republicans who support the move “soft and foolish.” A floor vote on the bipartisan measure is expected next week.
Trump says Democrats are pushing the Epstein issue again to distract from political setbacks, despite the DOJ already releasing tens of thousands of pages tied to the case.
